Below is a complete list of UK motorways.

M1 The M1 is often nicknamed the 'gateway to the North'.

The M1 runs up the eastern side of England running north-south linking London in the South (Hendon) to Leeds in the North East then continuing north to the A1 near Garforth.

M4 The M4 motorway is a motorway in southern England and South Wales running east-west linking London (Chiswick) to Bristol and terminating just beyond Pontarddulais in South Wales. M5 The M5 is the main motorway through South West England. Linking the M6 at Great Barr near Birmingham to Exminster near Exeter. South West England West Midlands, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Bristol, Somerset, Devon
M6 The M6 is the UK's longest motorway.

The M6 is the main western side of the UK motorway running north-south up the Western side of England to Scotland, linking North West England with the South.

The M6 Starts at M1 near Rugby and terminates at the A74(M) at Gretna which continues on to Glasgow.

M6 Toll The M6 Toll is a toll motorway bypassing a busy stretch of the M6 around the Birmingham and Wolverhampton areas from near Coleshill to Cannock. Western England West Midlands, Staffordshire
M8 Linking Edinburgh to the A8 at Langbank, via Glasgow and Livingston. There is a gap in the motorway between Chapelhall and Bargeddie (south-east and south-west of Coatbridge) where the road is classified as the A8, this section will soon be upgraded to motorway standard. M9 The M9 links the M8 just west of Edinburgh to Dunblane via Stirling and Falkirk. Scotland Edinburgh, West Lothian, Falkirk, Stirling
M11 The M11 links London at Woodford to Cambridge. Eastern England Greater London, Essex, Cambridgeshire
M18 Linking the M1 at Rotherham to the M62 near Goole. North East England South Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire
M20 The M20 links the M25 at Swanley to Folkestone. South East England Kent
M23 The M23 links Hooley in Surrey to Crawley. South East England Surrey, West sussex
M25 The M25 is the "London orbital motorway", numbered clockwise from Dartford around London to Thurrock. The Dartford Crossing between Thurrock and Dartford is not classified as a motorway, being the A282. M26 A short link between the M25 at Sevenoaks and the M20 before Maidstone. South East England Kent
M27 The M27 motorway is near the south coast of England running from Cadnam, west of Southampton, to Portsmouth. South East England Hampshire
M32 The M32 is a spur from the M4 near Winterbourne to central Bristol. West Midlands of England Gloucestershire, Bristol
M40 The M40 is a south-east to north-west running motorway linking Denham, west of London, to the M42 south of Solihull. England Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire
M42 The M42 is part of the Birmingham orbital motorway. Running from the M5 near Bromsgrove around the south and east of Birmingham and continuing north towards Measham.

A section near Coleshill has been replaced by the M6 Toll.

M45 The M45 is a short spur linking the A45 south west of Rugby to the M1 south east of Rugby and north of Daventry. England Warwickshire, Northamptonshire
M48 The M48 over the Severn Bridge links the M4 at Olveston over the River Severn, to the M4 at Rogiet.

The M48 used to be part of the M4 before the Second Severn Crossing was built.

M49 The M49 is a short link from the M5 to the M4 west of Bristol. England Bristol, Gloucestershire
M50 The M50 links the M5 north of Tewkesbury to Ross-on-Wye. England Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire
M53 The M53 links Wallasey and Chester. North West England Merseyside, Cheshire
M54 The M54 links the M6 north of Wolverhampton to Wellington west of Telford. North West England Staffordshire, Shropshire
M55 The M55 links the M6 north of Preston to Blackpool. North West England Lancashire
M56 The M56 links Gately, Manchester to the A5117 between Ellesmere Port and Chester. North West England Greater Manchester, Cheshire
M57 The M57 motorway known as "The Liverpool bypass",  runs north-west from the M62 near Huyton to Switch Island between Maghull and Aintree. North West England Merseyside
M58 The M58 links Switch Island, between Maghull and Aintree, northern Liverpool, to Wigan. North West England Merseyside, Lancashire, Greater Manchester
M60 The M60 known as "The Manchester Outer Ring Road" is an orbital motorway, numbered clockwise from Stockport. North West England Greater Manchester
M62 The M62 links Manchester (Worsley) to Bamber Bridge near Preston. England Merseyside, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire
M65 The M65 links Bamber Bridge near Preston to Colne. England Lancashire
M66 The M66 links Ramsbottom to the M60 at Whitefield. England Lancahsire, Greater Manchester
M67 The M67 links the M60 at Denton (east Manchester), to Hattersley (east of Hyde). England Greater Manchester
M69 The M69 links Coventry to Leicester. West Midlands of England Warwickshire, Leicestershire
M73 The M73 links the M74 near Uddingston to the M80, south west of Cumbernauld. Scotland North Lanarkshire, Glasgow
M74 The M74 links Glasgow to the A74(M) at Abington. Scotland Glasgow, North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire
M77 The M77 links the M8 at Glasgow to Fenwick near Kilmarnock. Scotland Glasgow, East Renfrewshire, East Ayrshire
M80 The M80 links the M8 at Glasgow to the M9 south of Stirling. Scotland Glasgow, North Lanarkshire, Falkirk, Stirling
M90 The M90 motorways links Inverkeithing, north of the Forth Road Bridge, to Perth.

There are plans to extend the motorway south across the Firth of Forth, to join the M9 at Kirkliston.

M180 The M180 links the M18 at Thorne to a junction of the A15, south of the Humber Bridge, and A180 west of Grimsby. North East England South Yorkshire, Lincolnshire
M181 The M181 ia a spur running from the M180 running to the west of Scunthorpe. Eastern England Lincolnshire
M271 The M271 is a spur running from the M27 heading north to the A3057 (Romsey) and south to Totton. South East England Hampshire
M275 The M275 ia a spur from the M27 on Horsea Island into Portsmouth. South East England Hampshire
M602 The M602 links the M62 at Winton to Salford, just west of the centre of Manchester. North West England Greater Manchester
M606 The M606 is a spur from the M62 near Cleckheaton into Bradford. North East England West Yorkshire
M621 The M621 links the M62 at Gildersome to the M1 near Rothwell.

The M621 motorway runs close to the centre of Leeds.

M876 The M876 links the M80 near Denny to the A876 near the Kincardine Bridge.

A short section of the M876 motorway north of Stenhousemuir is classified as the M9.

M898 The M898 is a spur from the M8 near Erskine to the A898, the Erskine Bridge approach road. Scotland Renfrewshire

Motorways That Were Formally A Roads

The follows motorways were formally designated as "A roads" but have been upgraded to motorway status.

A1(M) The parts of the A1 between London and Gateshead that have been upgraded to motorway.

There are five sections of the A1 that have been upgraded:

From the M25 at South Mimms to Stotfold (near Baldock);

From Alconbury (near Huntingdon) to Peterborough;
From Blyth (near Retford) to Adwick le Street (near Doncaster);

From Darrington (near Pontefract) to just north of Leeming (near Northallerton);

From Barton (near Darlington) to Birtley (near Gateshead).
Eastern England and North East England Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, County Durham, Tyne and Wear
A3(M) A3(M) links Horndean to Havant. South East England Hampshire
A38(M) The A38(M) is a spur from the M6 at the Gravelly Hill Interchange (Spaghetti Junction) to central Birmingham, also known as the Aston Expressway.

The A38(M) has no central reservation but uses a tidal flow system. The number of lanes open in each direction varies according to prevailing traffic conditions.

A48(M) The A48(M) links the M4 near Castleton to St Mellons in Cardiff. Wales Newport, Cardiff
A57(M) The A57(M) is known as the "Mancunian Way".

the A57(M) forms the southern part of Manchester's inner ring road, running from a junction on Deansgate to the A635 near Piccadilly Station.

The motorways is elevated and runs through the centre of the campus of UMIST, now part of the University of Manchester.
North West England Greater Manchester
A58(M) The A58(M) is the western part of the Leeds inner ring road, running from Wellington Road (A58) to join the A64(M) at the junction with Claypit Lane. North East England West Yorkshire
A64(M) The A64(M) is the eastern part of the Leeds inner ring road, running from the A58(M) at the junction with Claypit Lane A58, to York Road A64. North East England West Yorkshire
A66(M) The A66(M) is a motorway spur from the A1(M) near Cleasby joining the A66 heading into Darlington. North East England North Yorkshire
A74(M) The A74(M) links the M74 at Abington to the M6 at Gretna. Scotland and  North West England South Lanarkshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Cumbria
A167(M) The A167(M) is an urban motorway in central Newcastle upon Tyne running from just north of the Tyne Bridge to just north of Newcastle University. North East England Tyne and Wear
A194(M) The A194(M) links the A1(M) at Birtley (near Gateshead) to A194 near Wardley, leading to the Tyne Tunnel. North East England Tyne and Wear
A308(M) The A308(M) links the M4 junction 8/9 to the A308 near Bray. South East England Berkshire
A329(M) The A329(M) links Bracknell to Winnersh near Reading, crossing the M4. South East England Berkshire
A404(M) The A404(M) links the M4 junction 8/9 to the A4 at Maidenhead Thicket. South East England Berkshire
A601(M) The A601(M) is a motorway spur from the M6 at Carnforth to the A6 near Warton.

The southern part is single carriageway.
North West England Lancashire
A627(M) The A627(M) links Rochdale and Chadderton, crossing the M62. North West England Greater Manchester
A635(M) The A635(M) is the UK smallest motorway and forms a small part of the Mancunian Way for 0.3 miles before becoming the A57(M).

It isn't even signposted.

A823(M) The A823(M) is a motorway spur from the M90 near Rosyth to the A823 south of Dunfermline. Scotland Fife
