I purchased a VW Golf 1.6 TDI Blue Motion in November 2013.

The VW website (at the time of this post at least) suggested "Best for MPG" and refers to 88.3 mpg.

I realise that VW (and other car manufacturers) stated MPG might be extremely difficult to achieve in real life on real roads on normal journeys but I wondered what other VW Golf 1.6 TDI Blue Motion owners have achieved.

I took two trips last week one from Reading to London and the next day from Reading to Salisbury so both around 60 to 70 miles each way and mainly motorway or dual carriageway journeys on reasonably level roads.

The maximum average mpg I achieved was the best I have got since November at 70.4 mpg towards the end of the two journeys.

It was half term so there was less congestion than normal.

I am regularly averaging 65.7 mpg or there abouts at present with what I would call steady normal driving for motorways or dual carriageways.

Anyone getting but better mpg from their Golf 1.6 TDI Blue Motion?

p.s tried turning of the air conditioning to see if that would put the average mpg but I think it makes only a very small difference as far as I can see?
