Saw this new motoring forum mentioned on Facebook this evening and thought what a great idea.

I am sure if enough people contribute sensible posts here it will be another really handy resource on the web for motorists. Good luck with it I'm in!

So I have a question I have always pondered over.

I have never used a price comparison website for motor insurance or any other insurance for that matter, you know the likes of the "Meerkat" one, Go Compare and the "supermarket" type ones.

I have only ever gone direct for my motor insurance. I was with Tesco's for years and when my husband heard what I was quoted when I changed my car he was astonished at the quote.

He suggested I got a quote from Privilege who he has used for years and I saw my premium from around £37 a month to around £21 a month.

I was staggered.

My worry about using a price comparison website is once they have your details they are going to hound you, right?

Plus surely the comparison sites have to make a cut?

So does that not make it more expensive than going direct to an insurance company based on say recommendations from family, friends or spending a bit of time speaking to two or three insurance companies for a quote to compare yourself?

Anyone any good suggestions about direct vs comparison I can think about?
